Among the few development teams that can release three games in a year we find Obsidian Entertainment, which after Avowed and Grounded 2 closes 2025 to frame with The Outer Worlds 2. Starting today, the RPG with more action, weapons and graphics than the first installment is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Game Pass and PC (Steam).

The Outer Worlds 2 proposes to start an adventure in Arcadia, a completely new colony with its own factions and intrigues. Once again, players will step into the shoes of the unforeseen variant, this time taking on the role of a «bold, undeniably attractive and questionably competent» Earth Directorate agent, who is sent to Arcadia on a mission to discover the source of rifts that threaten the entire galaxy. Just like in the first The Outer Worlds, how you deal with all of this will depend on each individual.

To the problem of cracks we must add a faction war. The Protectorate is a military regime with abundant resources that is committed to order and obedience; Tita Ganga is the union between Tita Cleo and Ganga Espacial, and offers enough freedom to make you believe that you really have it; and the Order of the Ascendant is made up of maverick scientists turned faith-driven futurologists who predict the future through mathematics. Each faction is trying to close or control the rifts to their advantage.

While deciding the future of Arcadia with actions and decisions, players will build their own commander through a narrative where the last word will always be theirs. The story is driven by the player, who suffers the consequences. How to invest skill points, deal with flaws, or conduct conversations will depend on each individual. The Outer Worlds 2 offers all possible options, diplomacy, strategy, chaos, combat… In this installment the commitment to role-playing elements increases to offer a more immersive experience, systems such as stealth have been reinforced and the level design has been renewed.

As commander, players will have a group of six companions that they will recruit as the adventure progresses. Each of these allies has their personal interests in the future of the colony and their own options over the player's actions and decisions. For example, one of them may ask that the life of a faction leader be spared, and another suggest the elimination of an entire town in order to survive. The crew will take the decisions into account. Furthermore, he expects his commander to help him in his personal mission.

If we look at the critics, Obsidian Entertainment (and Xbox Game Studios) can be satisfied to see that The Outer Worlds 2 has an average score of around 83 out of 100.
