One of the great surprises of the Direct dedicated to Switch 2 was the presentation of The Duskbloods, an exclusive Fromsoftware game for the new console. The expectation went down a bit when it transpired that it was a JCJCE (player against a player against the environment), but it turns out that behind the project we have Hidetaka Miyazaki, the same one that Demon's Souls, Bloodborne, Dark Souls or Elden Ring. Aware that The Duskbloods would draw attention, Nintendo has published an interview with the game director that has cleared some doubts and offered new details and information.

To begin with and if there was any questions, Miyazaki acknowledges that The Duskbloods is something different from its previous proposals because it is an online multiplayer game JCJCE, and that means that players will fight each other and also against enemies controlled by the CPU. The director says that the JCJCE structure «has always seemed very interesting,» because it allows you to introduce a wide range of design ideas while taking advantage of their experience in the design of challenging meetings.

In the same question in which they were interested in himself, he had always wanted to play a JCJCE game, Miyazaki comments that developing such a multiplayer game «does not mean that, as a company, we have decided that from now on we will focus more on the multiplayer games.» The developer recalls that they have also announced a version of Elden Ring for Switch 2, and adds that Fromsoftware is totally determined to continue betting on the games for a player who adopt «our most traditional style.»

The Fromsoftware multiplayer scaries are not limited to The Duskbloods, on the way we also have the Elden Ring Nighttreign cooperative, but it is good to know through the mouth of Miyazaki that its main bet is still the games for a player. In principle we will not have a new case like Platinumgames.

On The Duskbloods, Miyazaki explains that in this title the players are put in the skin of characters known as Bloodsworn, who are part of a group whose members have achieved superhuman abilities thanks to the power of a special blood. The developer compares them to vampires. In The Duskbloods the Bloodsworn fight for a thing known as the First Blood along maps with different styles, including the Gothic and Victorian, as well as others that represent the last years of the Modern Age.

Because the Bloodsworn have superhuman powers, players can expect some more spectacular actions than in the previous Fromsoftware. Movements such as jumping or running are more dynamic and complement each other with weapons (including fire) and the skills of each character. Players can choose from a dozen characters, each of which will offer their own game style.

The Duskbloods online multiplayer admits up to 8 players. At the beginning of the game the players will be in a hub where they will select and customize their character, and in the end they will return there to receive the loot. With these rewards the character can be customized even more. The fighting usually end with a unique living player, but there are conditions of victory that depend on the results of the JCJ and JCE. The points will ultimately be those that will determine who has won. Direct combat is an important way to win points, but not the only one.

The launch of The Duskbloods is scheduled for 2026 in Nintendo Switch 2.
