After eight years and more than 400 updates, Escape from Tarkov finally reaches version 1.0. This important milestone comes accompanied by the debut of the shooter extraction on Steam, where it can be purchased for 49.99 euros. Veterans can continue playing from the game client developed by Battlestate Games. In any case, the servers are down, so be patient.

When Escape from Tarkov began its beta phase in 2017 the shooter Extraction was not a particularly well-known or established genre, which is why Battlestate Games says «we were pioneers.» It was this title that laid the foundations for gameplay that consists of entering an area, exploring for loot, facing enemies controlled by AI and other players, surviving and escaping with resources. The title presents a military and realistic theme. Since then, others have appeared shooter of extraction, including Arc Raiders, which will now share Steam with Escape from Tarkov.

Why so much time to develop a shooter extraction? Nikita Buyanov, director of Battlestate Games, acknowledges that the plan was to reach version 1.0 sooner, but launching a game is a complex process and even though «we knew what we were doing» sometimes «we didn't know how to do it.» This is what it takes to develop mechanics and systems for the first time. Escape from Tarkov is not only a shooter of extraction with PvP and PvE, it also has mechanics and systems for survival, trading, quests, weapon customization (with more than 1,000 equipment and weapon models), crafting, progression and more.

Update 1.0 is very ambitious and generous, so much so that its content has taken two years to prepare, develop and integrate into the game. One of its new features is that players will finally be able to escape from Tarkov. There are also new measures to combat cheaters and quality of life improvements. With Escape from Tarkov 1.0 one journey ends and another begins marked by a roadmap of updates and expansions. The first content will be Scav Life, which will allow you to immerse yourself in the history of the Scavengers to see them from a different perspective. They will have their own shelter and progression.

Regarding the launch of Escape from Tarkov on Steam, it is a way to reach a larger audience. It's not that the game has done poorly with its own client, which is still available, but being part of the Valve store catalog means setting foot in an ecosystem with tens of millions of players. In the future Escape from Tarkov will continue to expand its presence and the next stop is consoles.
