«[…] we have decided to delay the release of the game [007 First Light] two months, until May 27, 2026,» says IO Interactive in its message to the community. «007 First Light is our most ambitious project to date, and the team is fully focused on delivering an unforgettable James Bond experience, combining action, world travel, espionage, gadgets, car chases and more. «As independent developers and publishers, this decision allows us to ensure that the experience meets the level of quality that players deserve from day one.»
«The game is progressing well and is playable from start to finish, so these two additional months will allow us to further polish and refine the experience, thus ensuring that we offer the best possible version from launch,» continues IO Interactive. The studio is convinced that making this decision is best for the long-term success of 007 First Light. The statement ends with IO Interactive thanking players for their patience and support, as well as the desire to offer more news about the title in 2026.
Delaying a game of the ambition of 007 First Light is not a trivial decision, even less so when the reservation campaign was already underway and the title has gone through several events. However, IO Interactive does not want to emulate other projects whose launch was a disaster. Some have successfully completed the path to redemption, but it's better to spend two more months on a game than face the wrath of disgruntled customers and have to dedicate even more time and resources to the title.
The new release date for 007 First Light places it two days before Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, which if all goes according to plan will go on sale on May 29, 2026.
