Update: He rollback has been completed and the Rainbow Six Siege servers are operational again, Ubisoft has announced. The Marketplace remains closed until further notice.

Original news: The Ubisoft Montreal team has choked on the Tourtière. This weekend Rainbow Six Siege has suffered a hack important enough that the development team has decided to close the game servers and launch a rollback. More than 24 hours after the incident, the shooter free-to-play remains inaccessible.

The nightmare that Ubisoft is experiencing began yesterday, when a computer attack managed to overcome the security of Rainbow Six Siege and access important systems of the title, including the ability to block and unblock users, send personalized messages, unlock all elements of the game and grant each player 2,000 million R6 credits and Renown. Ubisoft sells 15,000 R6 credits for €99.99, so the actual cash value of the raiders' donation is €13.32 million.

Ubisoft has recognized the attack and warned about the closure of the Rainbow Six Siege servers and the Marketplace due to this «incident». He has also indicated that it will not block anyone for having spent the credits received, warned of the existence of a wave of messages that have not been sent by the company and clarified that a recent wave of bans from R6 ShieldGuard, an anti-cheat system that was recently updated, is not related to this event.

A little over two hours ago Ubisoft announced that «a rollback and, subsequently, extensive quality control testing will be carried out to ensure the integrity of the accounts and the effectiveness of the changes.» «The team is working to get players back into the game as soon as possible,» adds the company. A rollback is a rollback that will return the game to a previous state. In the absence of further details, this means that any changes after the attack will disappear and when Rainbow Six Siege is operational again, player accounts should be the same as before the hack.

«We are investigating some issues. Thank you for your patience,» Ubisoft says on the support page.

Rainbow Six Siege suffers this assault a few months after the launch of Rainbow Six Siege shooter free-to-play which was described by Ubisoft as «the biggest evolution in Siege history». Currently the game is celebrating its tenth anniversary and a few days ago it received the Y10S4.1 patch with minor changes.

At the time of publishing this news, the Rainbow Six Siege servers are still closed with no official forecast as to when they will be operational again. It is currently unknown who is behind the attack.
