New escabechina at Ubisoft. The French publisher has reviewed its portfolio of games in development from top to bottom and decided to cancel six projects, including the remake from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. This is one more movement in the eternal restructuring of the company directed (and founded) by Yves Guillemot, which is the only thing that does not seem to change. When Ubisoft announced the remake of Prince of Persia said it would be available on January 21, 2021. Today, January 21, 2026, the game has been canceled.

Ubisoft assures that this exhaustive review of its portfolio of games in development has led the company to reorient its portfolio and reallocate resources for the next three years. The company will focus on «returning to exceptional levels of quality in the open-world adventure genre» and repositioning itself in the games-as-a-service segment. As a result of its portfolio analysis and this vision, Ubisoft has canceled six games that «did not meet» the new quality standards. The editor also talks about more selective prioritization criteria within his portfolio.

In addition to the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Ubisoft has canceled four unannounced games, including three new intellectual properties and one mobile title. In parallel, Ubisoft has decided to give more development time to seven games so that they meet the highest quality criteria and thus maximize long-term value creation. In this group we find a title that has not yet been announced and whose launch has been postponed until fiscal year 2027. No more names have been revealed.

Frederick Duguet, Ubisoft's chief financial officer, added that they still have four new intellectual properties in development, including March of Giants, an Amazon Games title that the company recently purchased. The executive assures that this shows that the publisher continues to believe that there is room for new proposals in the market.

The journey of remake Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time began in September 2020 with the announcement by Ubisoft, which at that time planned to release the game on January 21, 2021. The remake It didn't start off on the right foot. It was first delayed to March 18, 2021 and then left without a release date. In 2022, Ubisoft removed Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai from the project, and put it in the hands of Ubisoft Montreal. Development restarted in 2023 and since then Ubisoft has only spoken about the title to say that it was still alive. Today, finally the odyssey of remake has come to an end.
