In 2024 the Spanish video game sector billed 2,408 million euros, an increase of 2.95 % compared to the previous year, which is largely explained by the online market rise that reached 1,558 million euros, which represents an interannual growth of 19.75 %. Online billing is divided by: 102 million euros of services to services (+22.5 %compared to the previous year), 867 million euros on online platforms (+17.42 %) and 589 million euros in apps (+14.09 %). Despite these notable year -on -year increases, the decrease in physical sale causes the total growth of the sector to have been limited.
The physical market closed 2024 with a turnover of 850 million euros, 18.11 % less than a year ago. This fall is due to a decrease in consumption that affects all data (hardware, software and peripherals). Compared to the previous year the sale of consoles decreased to 361 million, 22.12 % less, that of games fell to 334 million euros, 25.15 % less, and peripherals experienced a slight decrease of 2.58 % to 155 million euros. We will see if the launch of Nintendo Switch 2 or a change in consumer behavior manages to overcome the situation in 2025.
In total, throughout 2024, 5.4 million games were sold in Spain (one million less than the previous year), 900,000 consoles (200,000 less than the previous year) and 3.01 million accessories (100,000 less than the previous year).
Regarding the number of users, it rises to 22.1 million in 2024, which represents a growth of 10.22 % compared to the previous year and implies that 45 % of the Spanish population plays video games. These players dedicate an average of 8.2 hours per week to this activity, a figure that is above other countries in our environment such as France (7.62 hours) and Italy (5.68 hours) and below the United Kingdom (11.08 hours) and Germany (11,53 hours). In Spain, men play more than women, especially in consoles and PCs, although in global the most used device is mobile.
