With Hades II, PS5 and Xbox Series users have at their disposal a game with an average score of 95 out of 100, a score that no other title of 2025 has managed to surpass according to Metacritic and OpenCritic. On Steam it has more than 100,000 «extremely positive» user reviews. Supergiant Games has not revealed how many copies Hades II has managed to sell, but according to Alinea Analytics it had managed to ship more than 2 million units during early access and generated more than 50 million dollars. Currently both figures should be much higher and today they will rise even more.
A large part of Hades II's success is because it is a sequel to an excellent game that hasn't changed much. It is true that its development has been really long and for more than a year it has obtained the feedback from players through Early Access, but the foundation that brought the first Hades to glory is still there. Hades II is the first sequel from Supergiant Games (Transistor, Bastion, Pyre) and its great success has been to preserve the best aspects of the original game and perfect a formula with which they had already had great success.
Just because Hades II is a continuation does not mean there is no news. To begin with, the protagonist is Melinoë, the immortal princess of the Underworld and sister of Zagreus, who explores a world «more extensive and elaborate» than that of the first installment with the aim of defeating the forces of Cronus, the Titan of Time, with the help of Olympus. Zeus, Apollo and company offer blessings, while Melinoë has the ability to imbue the Weapons of the Night with ancient magic and is aided by companions, whose abilities add a new layer to the gameplay. The key is to adapt and learn with each attempt.
Since its launch in September 2025, Hades II has received several hotfix and only two big patches. The second one arrived today. Supergiant Games has never committed to releasing more content for Hades II, but it hasn't ruled it out either.
