With the release of The Final Form in 2024, Destiny 2 put an end to the Light and Darkness saga after a decade. Although the expansion laid the foundation for a new story, Green acknowledges that it also marked a kind of end for many players, something that was noted with the release of The Edge of Fate last July, when Destiny experienced a drop in activity. This is not good news for a game that, according to its director, has consolidated its main audience for years but has problems when it comes to incorporating new players.
Green assures that players were «happy and satisfied» with The Final Form, but acknowledges that afterwards there was a decrease in the number of users, something that was not foreseen from a business point of view because «we want to continue developing Destiny,» says Green. «We still have many things to tell in this universe.» However, he admits that they did not manage it well. In his opinion, the error was not in the new plot threads and mysteries, but in the new forms of progression, which created obstacles to accessing higher-level (and rewarding) activities.
Tyson Green assures that after processing the feedback of the players on The Confines of Destiny got to work to satisfy their demands. «[…] «There are two types of games as a service: those that listen to players and respond, and those that don't,» says Gree. «We don't want to be a dead game as a service, we want to continue developing Destiny. «So we're listening to our players, and what they're telling us is that they don't want to chase just a number that goes up, they want to chase real rewards,» says Green.
Another decision Bungie made is to release two medium-sized expansions a year instead of one large annual add-on. Tyson Green assures that this model allows the team to experiment and be more flexible to adapt to feedback from the players. With The Forsaken they have taken advantage of this new model to make changes to the systems launched in 2025 that have not convinced players, while offering a story and content inspired by Star Wars.
