In Subnautica 2, players take on the role of a character who, at the whim of the AI of the colonial ship CICADA, is transported with his companions to the wrong planet. Subnautica 2 is a single-player experience, but supports four-player online co-op.
The adventurers’ mission is to survive the depths and make this planet a new home. Unknown Worlds does not yet know how long Subnautica 2’s early access will last, but based on their other games that have previously gone through this same process, they estimate that it could be between 2 and 3 years until the game receives the 1.0 update. The price of the title will increase once this development phase is completed. «We have several goals that we are working aggressively on,» says the development team. «Our priority is to deliver quality at a reasonable pace. At the end of the day, we’re working to make Subnautica 2 the best game possible.»
During Early Access, Subnautica 2 players can expect updates with new content, including biomes, creatures, craftable items, and story lines. The gaming experience will also be improved with bug fixes and optimizations. The updates will be of different sizes and during this stage of development Unknown Worlds ensures that it will take into account the opinion of the players.
