Even though there are two protagonists, Resident Evil Requiem has a single story, says Akifumi Nakanishi, the game's director. As the plot progresses, players will alternate between Leon and Grace. Nakanishi describes Leon as a seasoned veteran and a ikeojia Japanese term used to describe a mature, attractive and stylish man, while Grace is the «scariest» character in the Resident Evil saga. In some parts of the game they will both meet, so there will be interaction between them. There we can see how Leon's attitude has changed now that he has gray hair.
In terms of playing time, Leon and Grace will have practically the same participation. In this sense, Nakanishi compares the structure of Resident Evil Requiem with that of Resident Evil Revelations. Players can expect two completely different experiences that the title will emphasize. The director assures that it is almost like having two different games, maintaining that this contrast gives the playable experience a unique rhythm and defends that one of the most important things has been to combine the segments well.
Nakanishi says that a Resident Evil Requiem with just Grace would be too scary, so introducing Leon serves to provide sections where the player can release tension. «You feel safe during Leon's chapters and scared in Grace's,» says the director. At the gameplay level, Leon is based on Resident Evil 4, but it has several new features in terms of movements, physique and mentality. Additionally, he now drives a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT. For its part, Grace's gameplay is inspired by Resident Evil 2.
Resident Evil Requiem will be available on February 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
