The announcement that Professor Layton and the New Steam World is becoming multiplatform has been accompanied by a new trailer and the list of languages in which it will be available. It includes Spanish along with English, French, Italian, German, Japanese Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. It has also emerged that in charge of the soundtrack is Joe Hisaishi, the main composer of Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli (My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Rosso, Ponyo, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke). In addition, he is the composer of Bandai Namco's Ni no Kuni saga and a generous number of animes and films.
The Professor Layton and the New Steam World campaign is set after the events of Professor Layton and the Lost Future. While Layton is in London, Luke has settled in Steam Bison, a city in the United States that, thanks to steam engines, has greatly advanced technologically. Following an incident, Layton and Luke will reunite at Steam Bison to face a new mystery.
In addition to Layton and Luke, the following characters will appear in Professor Layton and the New World by Steam: Elinora Allinston, an expert mechanic and the youngest of the twin sisters of the wealthy Allinston family; Elida Allinston, Elinora's older sister who is studying to be an actress; Eggmuffin Sonder, the inventor responsible for the rapid growth of Steam Bison; Bolt Allinston, the richest man in the city and the figure who has driven its development; Bobsley, the Steam Bison sheriff who rides around town on a steam engine; Falcon, an eagle who takes offense when he is mistaken for a vulture; and Mystella, the one responsible for keeping track of Layton's unsolved puzzles.
To design the Professor Layton and the New World puzzles, Level-5 has hired the services of QuizKnock, a Japanese group specialized in this work and whose work combines entertainment and knowledge.
