VGC has had the opportunity to interview Akihito Kadowaki, producer of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and ask him about the September release calendar, which this year is very lively because of Grand Theft Auto VI, which no one wants (or can) overshadow. We don’t know how the rest of the producers and development teams are doing, but the Onimusha team seems calm due to the confidence they have in their project.

Kadowaki says that after watching all the conferences that took place in early June, he was surprised by the number of games that will go on sale between the end of September and the beginning of October. The producer acknowledges that he expected a generous number of releases during this period, but that the development team was still surprised to see the number of names. Are you worried? The answer is no. Kadowaki is confident in the success of Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

Among the claims listed by the producer we have Miyamoto Musashi, the protagonist who uses Toshiro Mifune, a late star of Japanese samurai cinema, as a facial model, and a combat system that promises to realistically capture the impact of each blow with the sword. Among the systems available in Onimusha: Way of the Sword we also have deflection, repel, Issen abilities, Oni weaponry and soul absorption. Those interested in meeting Musashi and testing the game’s combat system have a demo available.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword trailer shown during the latest Capcom Spotlight.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword will go on sale on September 25, followed by Dune: Awakening (September 22), Control Resonant (September 24), Silent Hill: Townfall (September 24), and Hot Wheels Infinite Rush (September 24) that same week. A week before, Marvel: Wolverine (September 15), Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave (September 17) and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV (September 17) will debut, while a week later it will be the turn of Minecraft Dungeons II (September 29), Rayman Legends: Retold (October 1) and Ace Combat 8 (October 2). Next will be Gears of War: E-Day (October 6).

In the same medium, director Satoru Nihei acknowledges that the development team also feels the pressure to continue Capcom’s good streak, which for a few years has counted its releases as successes, including the new intellectual property Pragmata. «To say we don’t feel the pressure would be a lie,» says Nihei. However, it is easier for the director to work on a game when things are going well than when they are going badly. He is also confident in the positive effects of Capcom’s reputation and the positivity surrounding the company.
