Mina the Hollower is an action and adventure game that at first glance stands out for its 8-bit visuals that seek to replicate the Game Boy style, «but polished for the new times.» This means that Yacht Club Games is nostalgic for the laptop, but not enough to miss the technological benefits, so the title has detailed animations, graphics adapted to widescreen screens and «extremely» precise controls that in the 90s were impossible with the Nintendo laptop.
The title campaign follows Mina, a Hollower who aims to save a cursed island. To achieve this, you must whip your enemies using Nightstar and make the most of an arsenal of subweapons and trinkets that can be equipped to have different effects at hand in combat. Our heroine also has other weapons, each of which is accompanied by a series of different movements. Likewise, Mina can jump, dodge and bury herself, actions that are useful both when facing monsters and when exploring the scene.
Yacht Club Games had planned to release Mina the Hollower on October 31, 2025, but three weeks before the game hit stores, it decided to backtrack and left the title undated. At the time the studio said in a statement that it needed «a little more time to finish putting the finishing touches and balance the game so it can really shine.» Despite being a study indieYacht Club Games seems to have a good economy thanks to the success of the Shovel Knight saga, so it hasn’t had much problem dedicating more than six years of development to this project.
Yacht Club Games claims that Mina the Hollower «is our most ambitious game to date.»
