Double Fine Productions has announced that Kiln, an online multiplayer fighting and ceramics game, will be available on April 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC through Steam in exchange for 19.99 euros. Before the game hits stores (and Game Pass), PC players will be able to take a look at it thanks to an open beta taking place from April 9 to 11 on Steam. There are no details about its content, so for now we have to settle for the release date.

Kiln is one of those games from Double Fine Productions that was born as an experiment, but over time it takes shape until it becomes something solid enough to end up being a game. This development team led by Tim Schafer is best known for adventures with their own brand such as Keeper and Psychonauts, so when they decided to launch a multiplayer game they did not give up their creativity. Hence, Kiln is a title that mixes ceramic creation with brawler[i] multiplayer. There are many multiplayer proposals, but it is difficult to find another that uses pottery in its gameplay.

In each game of Kiln, players put themselves in the shoes of a small spirit in charge of creating and inhabiting vessels of all kinds. The vessel is a fighter and its creation process requires strategy and creativity because each decision directly influences how it will behave in combat. This customization and its effect on gameplay is one of the foundations of the Kiln experience. Unlike in real life, in the game transforming a piece of clay into a piece of ceramic is much simpler and more intuitive. The shape of the vessel will determine its statistics, special move, basic attack and air attack.

During the open beta the goal of Double Fine is to test the Kiln servers and obtain the [i]player feedback. The development team is interested in knowing what players like and what content they should prioritize. The initial plan is to bet on different maps with their own mechanics instead of expanding the number of game modes available. We are also working on adding more customization options.
