After more than a decade, the Shinobi franchise returns to life with Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, a platform game and 2D action of lateral displacement that is available today on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam in exchange for 29.99 euros. Behind this title we find Lizardcube, a French study known for the development of Streets of Rage 4 and Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap. Sega's bet for this team has been successful if we take into account that the average note in both OpenCritic and Metacritic is close to 90 out of 100.

The Shinobi campaign: Art of Varence puts the players in the skin of Joe Musashi, the protagonist of the franchise and the leader of the Oboro clan. A fateful day Lord Ruse and the corporation are attacking the village of the Oboro clan, and despite the fact that Joe fought their people, their people was razed by the fire and its clan turned into stone because of a curse. Lord Ruse not only has great power, but also wields a stolen artifact that confers immortality. Given this situation and aware that he faces the greatest threat of his life, Joe Forja «an unexpected alliance» to save the Clan Oboro.

The soundtrack is composed of Tee Lopes (Sonic Mania) and Yuzo Koshiro (The Revenge of Shinobi, Shenmue.

Shinobi's playable experience: Art of Vengeance is based on everything that can be expected from a 2D platform and action title, but adapted to the times, with many more options than original deliveries and with a large investment of time in creating a fluid game. Joe has access to an Arsenal Ninja that includes Kunais, Ninjutsus, Ninpos and the Katana Oborozuki, weapons can be combined with combat movements to create «unlimited» combos. In addition, there are amulets to improve skills, while Nigi tools allow Joe to overcome obstacles and discover new paths.

SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance is inspired by The Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi III and honors the franchise in many ways. For example, recover the bamboo forest phase. This is the relaunch of an emblematic franchise, so Lizardcube has been in permanent contact with Sega to respect the past without sacrificing modern standards. Being modern does not mean adopting the metroidvania style. Shinobi is a game by levels. Whoever wants to check it can do with a demo available on all platforms.

This summer has been a very good season for the followers of the lateral displacement games starring Ninjas. In two months two classics have returned. Ninja Gaiden returned a month ago with Ragebound, a game developed by the Spanish studio The Game Kitchen, while today we recovered Joe Musehi with Shinobi: Art of Vengeance.
