Indie.io, a publisher specializing in independent games, has announced that on April 13 it will launch Indie Pass, a subscription with unlimited access to a catalog of titles indie. The goal is to offer a new option for independent developers and publishers to reach new audiences, while making available to players an assortment of selected games that will be renewed over time.

Indie Pass has a monthly price of 5.99 euros and has a catalog of more than 70 games of different genres, many of which are part of the Indie.io portfolio such as Echoes of the Plum Grove and the Dark Deity saga. Now we are looking to add new editors and developers to increase the variety of the collection. Once Indie Pass is available, the catalog will be updated «frequently» and some of the titles could arrive on the same day they are released. Annual subscription options will also be available with the same conditions, but with a discount on the monthly price.

For publishers and developers, Indie Pass offers a non-exclusive participation model, where revenue is distributed based on the time players spend playing the game. Indie.io ensures that in this way a source of income is created that goes far beyond the launch of the title. This is especially important for games indie which Indie.io usually deals with. There are developers who, if they do not achieve a great impact in the launch of their title, must wait years to have another opportunity.

Thousands of games are released every year and getting known is really difficult, so Indie Pass is also presented as a platform that offers the opportunity to increase visibility so that users can find games that they would not have otherwise discovered. The service has a recommendation system that monitors user interaction to facilitate the discovery of new titles. On Steam they have the same problem and today they announced a renovation of the main page whose main objective is to make it easier to find new games.

Regarding the distribution of income, Indie.io explains to GamesIndustry that they will be completely transparent. For example, if a user plays two games in a month, the developers will receive half of the monthly subscription each minus the platform costs. If the customer plays a lot of games, the developer compensation will go down.
