On New Year's Eve 2025, Bloober Team started a countdown that ended today with the announcement of Layers of Fear 3, the third numbered installment of a first-person psychological horror saga. The Polish studio has revealed the project with a live-action trailer and nothing more. There are no details about the game, development platforms or release window. The reason for announcing the title on Sunday is none other than to celebrate that ten years ago, on February 15, 2016, the first Layers of Fear went on sale.

«For Bloober Team, Layers of Fear is not just a game from our past,» says Piotr Babieno, CEO of Bloober Team, during the event to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the franchise and announce the third installment. «It marked the moment when we understood what kind of studio we wanted to be and what kind of games we wanted to create […] «We want to honor that legacy and show that Layers of Fear is still alive, still evolving, and still finding new ways to torment.»

«Layers of Fear was conceived as a tribute to artists and the fine line between inspiration and obsession,» says creative director Mateusz Lenart. «Creativity can be as beautiful as it is destructive when shaped by ambition and fear of failure. Our goal was to demonstrate that by putting the player inside the decadent mind of an artist, we invite empathy instead of judgment, transforming terror into a human experience […] Layers of Fear is a game for the artist in you. And, like any artistic journey, the further you go into it, the more you discover about yourself.»

The first installment of Layers of Fear (2016) is set in a Victorian mansion and puts players in the shoes of a painter obsessed with finishing his masterpiece, even if it is at the cost of losing his sanity. Layers of Fear 2 arrived in 2019 to transport players to a haunted ocean liner where a disturbed actor places himself under the orders of an enigmatic director and wonders what he is willing to sacrifice in exchange for the role of a lifetime. In 2023, Layers of Fears was released, a «definitive edition» that combines Layers of Fear, Layers of Fear 2 and all their additional content along with new chapters.

Although Layers of Fear was the game that defined Bloober Team, the title by which many people know the company is the remake of Silent Hill 2. In addition to Layers of Fear 3, the Polish studio is working on at least two other games: Project M, code name of a title for Nintendo Switch 2 that has been defined as a mix between Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Limbo and Eternal Darkness, and the remake from the first Silent Hill. The latest game that Bloober Team has released is Cronos: The New Dawn.
