Lego Batman: The Dark Knight Legacy is an action-adventure game, offering the opportunity to relive Batman’s journey from his origins to becoming a legend through an odyssey packed with iconic moments and signature Lego humor. This is not an adaptation, but a title inspired by the comic series that allows players to step into the shoes of Bruce Wayne during his early days as a member of the League of Shadows, until he transforms into Batman and becomes the hero of Gotham City.
The journey of Bruce Wayne / Batman is not only marked by the humor of the Lego games that TT Games has accustomed us to, which uses well-known plots and moments from comics, television, movies, animation and other video games to give a (fun) twist to the character’s story, but it is also influenced by his allies and enemies. Next to the Dark Knight we have characters like Jim Gordon, Catwoman, Robin, Nightwing and Batgirl, while the list of supervillains he faces includes the Joker, the Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Falcone, Poison Ivy and Bane among others.
To fulfill the Dark Knight’s mission as guardian of Gotham City, players will have a combat system in the style of Rocksteady Studios’ Arkham Asylum, which in short is based on chaining attacks and dodging or counterattacking when warnings appear on the screen indicating an enemy’s hit. In this game dodging is a requirement to break the defense of enemies with armor or shield. It also serves to avoid shots. In addition, there is a Focus meter that allows you to execute different finishes.
To Batman’s set of hand-to-hand movements we must add an arsenal of gadgets. We have everything from the classic Batclaw to grab enemies to more colorful options, like Catwoman’s ability to summon a feline or Gordon’s foam sprayer. These tools are also useful in the exploration phases. Regarding mobility, the open world of Lego Batman: The Dark Knight Legacy can be navigated by gliding or driving a range of Batmobiles and Batbikes, including the Acrobat.
The Dark Knight also has his Batcave, a space that serves as a base of operations for Bruce Wayne. The Batcave is a facility that evolves from a warehouse to a high-tech facility, where our protagonist can improve his hand-to-hand fighting capabilities, exploration, stealth, puzzle solving, and the gadgets of all playable characters. There is also the option to decorate the Batcave.
