Code Vein II sets its story in a world that has long been haunted by a catastrophic mystery known as the Resurgence that drove humanity to near extinction. Salvation came with the appearance of the resurrected, immortal heroes who managed to seal the Resurgence. However, a fateful event broke the balance and the ritual that maintained the seal began to weaken, putting the world in danger. A group of resurrected people sacrificed themselves to restore the seal, but this action gave rise to the Luna Rapacis, a celestial body whose light nullifies the power of the resurrected.
A century later, the chrysalises where the resurrected ones who sacrificed themselves sleep still hold, but their seal deteriorates. As this happens, outbreaks of the Resurgence appear, anticipating a new era of chaos in the world. As a RisenHunter, players undertake the mission to prevent the end of the world and to achieve this they will have the help of Lou, who has the power to manipulate time.
Code Vein II's combat system is that of a soulslikebut with its own elements with which it seeks to differentiate itself. To begin with, our protagonist has an artifact called a cage on his back that allows him to use the inherent abilities of the Risen. There are different cages and each one has unique features. Regarding the arsenal, it is made up of weapons and Forms. Forms are divided into three types and each weapon can be equipped with up to four different Forms. All of these options offer the player the option to adapt their playing style based on their preferences or the demands of the match.
In combat, in addition to normal attacks, draining attacks are performed that allow blood to be drawn from enemies to obtain ichor, an essential resource for launching powerful attacks. You also have to keep in mind the buddy system. Each of the allies has special effects whose power depends on the bond the hero has with them. This combat companion can be assimilated to boost one's own powers, attributes and abilities, or left to fight on its own and offer assistance.
Code Vein II's post-launch content plan includes the release of the Mask of Idris expansion, which will offer a story independent of the main campaign. This add-on is included in the Deluxe and Ultimate editions, which are shipped for 89.99 euros and 99.99 euros, respectively.
