Bloomberg describes League Next as the biggest update in League of Legends history, and says it will include a visual overhaul of the characters, the battlefield (Summoner's Rift), and the user interface. The game is also being redesigned with the aim of improving the experience for new players and working on the technical part to facilitate the release of updates. Last summer, after 15 years, League of Legends added WASD controls as an alternative to point-and-click.
After this information obtained through employees and former employees has emerged, Riot Games has confirmed practically everything. In a video, the company explains that its long-term plans include a complete visual renovation, changes to the gameplayadjustments to runes and pre-game systems, a new client fully integrated with the experience in-game and an improved new player experience. The development team will share more information in the next Dev Update and during 2026 between MSI (Mid-Season Invitational) and Worlds (World Championship).
Riot Games has also confirmed that these major changes to League of Legends will be available in 2027.
After 16 years in operation, League of Legends manages to register more than 100 million active users every month and is one of the most popular games with the highest level of income in the world. Over the last few years, League of Legends has become a franchise whose most notable expansion has been Netflix's animated series Arcane. There were only two seasons, but according to Riot Games, a narrative journey began there with Fortiche, the animation studio responsible for the series. It is unknown for now what the next stop on this journey is.
