This is not the first time Tim Cain has worked for Obsidian Entertainment. In 2011 he was hired by the company and during his stay he participated in the development of South Park and Pillars of Eternity. He also directed The Outer Worlds. In 2020, Cain left Obsidian and began working on his own, which allowed him to collaborate with other companies and projects, but without completely abandoning his former colleagues as demonstrated by his participation in The Outer Worlds 2. Now Cain returns to Obsidian as a full-time, in-person employee, which is why he has moved to California and made friends with a squirrel.
«I'm back at Obsidian,» says Tim Cain on his YouTube channel. «I'm a full-time, in-person employee, not remotely, and I'm no longer a contractor. This means I don't work elsewhere, although there is at least one game I worked on that is going up for sale.» To find out what project Cain is involved in now that he dedicates all his time to Obsidian, you have to be patient because all his work is covered by a confidentiality agreement. «Don't bother guessing, you won't get it right,» Cain says. With these words it seems that we can rule out that it is a main delivery or spin-off from Fallout.
What Tim Cain can tell you is that he has a t-shirt in memory of Terry Hess, a recently deceased Obsidian artist, he participated in the launch party for The Outer Worlds 2 and now sports a tattoo of the moon man. Regarding his YouTube channel, nothing will change. «No one at Obsidian has even remotely suggested that I have to quit,» Cain says. «In fact, many of my coworkers have told me that they watch this channel.» The designer will continue making videos as long as he has stories to tell.
With this signing, Obsidian Entertainment closes a particularly productive 2025. In one year the company has managed to launch Avowed, The Outer Worlds 2 and early access for Grounded 2. Without a doubt it is one of the studios in the best shape of Xbox Game Studios.
