Independent studio Nine Dots Studio has announced that Outward 2, an action RPG with survival elements, will be available on July 7 on Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG through early access. The release date is accompanied by system requirements and a trailer with gameplay showing the «potato mode», which will allow players with a modest computer to run the game at 720p and 30 FPS.

Outward 2 is the sequel to Outward, a delivery that aims to reinforce everything that worked well in the first title and improve the rest. “We sought to reward exploration and encourage players to prepare and think about how they would react to danger,” says Guillaume Boucher-Vidal, CEO and creative director of Nine Dots Studio. «We identified four key areas where we knew we could, should, and had to improve Outward 2: better character creation and progression, better narrative, a more vivid world, and lastly, a better combat system.»

The trailer for Outward 2 that you have above these lines begins showing the world of Aurai where the action takes place on a computer that meets the requirements to play in Ultra (2160p at more than 60 FPS). Then switch to Potato mode to see how the title looks running at 1280 x 720 and 30 FPS using a system equipped with an AMD FX 6300 X6 processor, an Nvidia GeForce 750 Ti graphics card and 8 GB of RAM. The first Outward’s recommended requirements are higher than Outward 2’s Potato Mode.

Players who pick up Outward 2 will be transported to Aurai, «an unforgiving world that forgives no one.» In this title the protagonist is a normal adventurer who must prepare to live and survive great experiences. Outward 2 proposes all kinds of challenges, but also offers the necessary tools to overcome them. Nine Dots Studio promises to offer a «realistic and human experience, full of obstacles to overcome, with which players will feel identified.» Going on an adventure also means facing hunger, thirst, fatigue and the weather.

«You are nothing more than a human being trying to survive, with no mounts or fast travel at your disposal,» says the development team. Anyone who wants to survive in company can do so with a local and online cooperative mode.
