Whoever wants to put themselves in the shoes of Daedalus can now write down in their diary the release date of Minos, a roguelike of maze building that will go on sale on April 9 for PC through Steam. Behind this title whose demo is available on Steam we have the Polish studio Artificer (Sumerian Six, Showgunners).

Greek mythology says that Daedalus created a labyrinth in Crete to enclose a minotaur called Asterius, and in Minos players put themselves in the skin of this animal. The mission is not to find the route out of the labyrinth, but to build a labyrinth to prevent adventurers who want to hunt the mythological creature for gold, glory and fame from finding it. If the labyrinth is not the tomb of the looters, we must ensure that they reach the minotaur sufficiently decimated so that they are not a threat.

Minos offers complete freedom to build and adapt the maze. As you crawl walls, doors, and hallways, you can create a maze with long, winding paths, or a layout that forces invaders to split up with rotating hallways and moving doors. «It's your maze: use wit or cruelty, you decide,» says the development team. The design of the maze goes hand in hand with all types of traps. There are also pressure plates that can activate mechanisms. You have to take advantage of all the available space in the best possible way with the aim of causing maximum destruction as the adventurers pass by.

When designing the maze, players must keep in mind that not all adventurers are the same. Some are immune to certain traps and others have unique abilities. If the traps do not fulfill their mission, you will have to put yourself in the shoes of the minotaur, who in addition to fighting can rearrange the traps, modify some parts of the labyrinth and improve his skills in exchange for gold. In short, Minos proposes a mix of strategy, puzzles and labyrinth construction where each game is different. As in good roguelikedeath is not the end. Additionally, there are permanent improvements.

Anyone checking out the Minos demo will find a selection of traps, tools, artifacts and enemies to experiment with, along with limited progression and a shorter map. «The full release will include story content,» says the development team. «The demo is just about building, luring and devouring the foolish heroes who dare to desecrate your lair.»
