The first installment of the mafia saga developed by Illusion Softworks is undoubtedly the most remembered, so when carrying out a new Hangar 13 chapter left behind the open world of Mafia III to return to the roots of the franchise in all the senses. The result of this exercise is Mafia: The Old Country, a game that is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC through Steam in exchange for 49.99 euros.

Mafia: The Old Country transports us to the underworld of the Sicily of the 1900s to witness the origins of organized crime by putting ourselves in the skin of Enzo Favara. After an childhood of forced labor, Enzo is willing to do anything for a better life and decides to become a man of honor in the criminal family Torrisi. Our protagonist will soon verify that «the family demands sacrifices», while the players will discover that behind the attractive landscape of the Sicilian countryside, stories of betrayal and violence are hidden, as well as vendettas that extend for decades.

To survive while he makes his way to Don Torrisi's family, Enzo will have an arsenal where the stiletto stands out, which in good hands is a deadly resource, and the trimmed shotgun Lupara, a whole symbol of the time and the Sicilian mafia. Mobility goes through the use of vehicles and horses. Among the qualities of Enzo we find loyalty, honor and obedience, three very wanted characteristics within a criminal organization.

Mafia: The Old Country is inspired by the first installment of the saga. That means that it is committed to offering a cinematographic experience with a linear story where the quality of the narrative and immersion in the time prevails, without giving up the modern playability of a third -person action game. 2K and Hangar 13 hope to find this proposal to the public that seeks «attractive stories that do not require great time commitments.» The mafia campaign: The Old Country should last between 10 and 15 hours, just like the first two deliveries.

«It is hard to believe that almost nine years have passed since Mafia III,» says Hangar 13 team. «Many things have changed for us in Hangar 13 and, when looking back, we are proud to say that there is something that has remained constant: our love for developing film and narrative games. We believe that there will always be a place for this type of experience in our industry, as we could see first hand with the welcome of mafia. How much we like to create this type of games and how much we, our fans, like to play them. «

Criticism says that Mafia: The Old Country is a game that deserves an average grade that is around 75 out of 100, while in Steam the first reviews of the players are «very positive.»
